Pietrasanta: Cultural history built on stone. The lively small town at the foot of the Apuan Alps is the main cultural centre of the Versilias area and has been a major marble processing centre for centuries. The local workshops for marble, glass and copper art have an excellent and partly international reputation. As the ‘preferred place to work’, Pietrasanta is until today characterised by the work of major artists and sculptors from many countries and eras. Monuments in the historic quarter, like Duomo of San Marino (14th century) and the Moroni Palace are evidence of an impressive town planning construction of the late Middle Ages worth seeing. These together with the art treasures exhibited at numerous places produce a fascinating mix of art and handicraft, of the past and present: for a special flair that international visitors appreciate. www.italiadiscovery.it
